Nov. 9 2013 Recipes By Plaza RV

One of the most exciting parts of RVing is coming up with creative meals that are easy to make, loved by your family, and RV friendly. Today, most RVs feature fully equipped kitchens, which makes coming up with a meal on the go and storing and reheating leftovers, easier than it used to be.

With deer archery season in full swing and deer muzzleloader and shotgun seasons quickly approaching you’re sure to have an abundance of venison just waiting to be cooked up into a delicious meal for your family. What better way to enjoy the fruits of your labor than to cook up your venison into a heartwarming fall chili that keeps you full through the night?

Venison Chili

  • 2 pounds ground venison

  • 2 cloves of garlic chopped or pressed

  • 1 onion diced

  • 1 teaspoon unsweetened cocoa powder (optional)

  • 1 tablespoon sugar/sweetener

  • Your favorite chili mix

  • 2 cans tomato sauce

  • 2 cans kidney beans

Toppings

  • Cheddar cheese

  • Diced red onions

  • Hot sauce

  • Avocado

  • Sour cream

  • Tortilla chips

Brown the venison, onions, and garlic together. Drain any fat. Add kidney beans, tomato sauce, cocoa powder, sugar, and chili mix. Combine thoroughly and allow to simmer for 20 minutes. The cocoa, while optional, adds a nice earthy flavor and deepens the color of your chili, while the sugar takes the edge off of any spice.

Once your chili is complete, dish it out, add your favorite toppings, and enjoy around the campfire while you wait for the next big buck to make his way toward you!
